We are deeply saddened to bring you the news that our Founder and friend, Gene Gendlin, passed away today. He died peacefully at home. His attendant and two dear friends were at home with him at the time.

Gene’s children will hold a memorial service and burial in the coming days, for family only. At a future time, The International Focusing Institute will hold a public celebration of his life, to which you will all be invited.

At a time like this, we are especially aware of the impossibility of words to convey the wholeness of our experience.  Sadness at his passing, joy for the life he lived so well, admiration for his rigorous academic achievement, gratitude for his having developed Focusing and the philosophy from which it springs, and, of course, love.

Please hold in your thoughts and prayers his three children, Judy, Gerry and Elissa, and their families, as well as the friends who have been so caring and loyal to Gene over many years.
